The ACI code provides the following limiting shear values for members subjected only to shear & flexure: , & . What is the significance of each of these limits?

                                                   Significance of these limits

The shear strength is the function of compressive strength of concrete, and the shear failure is the combine action of flexural and shear loads. Moreover, if the compressive strength increaes from 6ksi, the contribution of concrete to shear strength decreases. To ensure safety, ACI code limits the limiting shear foe member subjected to shear and flexural loadings.
