What is an example in Clausius statement of second law of thermodynamics.

Clausius Statement Example

Example of Clausius statement is a refrigerator with COP (coefficient of performance) equal to infinity which is impossible.

We have read about heat engines that convert heat energy into work and its application in various fields of thermodynamics. Can we think of a device that is the opposite of a heat engine, i.e. a device that helps in the conversion of work into heat? In this section, we will learn about the refrigerator and heat pump that works on the opposite principle of a heat engine.

Refrigerator

It states that “It is impossible to construct a device which operates on a cycle and produces no other effect than the transfer of heat from a single body in order to produce work.” This means that it is impossible to construct an engine whose sole purpose is to convert the heat from a high-temperature source/reservoir into an equal amount of work. This is a special case of the second law of thermodynamics.
